Cities blog

                                                  Developments, Innovations and Advancements:

1- Statue of liberty was created in Paris, France. It was brought to the U.S. in pieces and restored by workers.

2- Bessemer process was invented to produce steel in mass. This innovation would be the first inexpensive way to create steel from molten pig iron. It was named after its creator: Henry Bessemer.

3- Skyscraper were beginning to appear in the early 20th century in Manhattan, NY, after the creation of the Bessemer process.

                                                             Obstacles and Challenges:

1-The Statue of Liberty was designed in Paris by French historian Edouard de Laboulaye. The statue was a gift from France to the U.S. But this gift had a significant price and the value issued was not in the budget of the American country. So the American government began to collect money by raising taxes

2- After the invention of steel in mass, thousands of people began moving to New York. Urban population was starting to be saturated and there wasn’t about enough space for everyone, therefore, hundreds of people were cramped together in tenement houses with small rooms and no ventilation or light.

3- Skyscraper were taking over the city of New York and workers needed to put their life in danger to construct the tall buildings, in account of the lack of safety equipment.

Native American Portraits

During the Battle of Wounded Knee in December 29, 1890, many Indians died in the conflict field and their bodies were left laying in the winter's snow. Moments later, after they were already frozen, bodies were thrown in the same grave.

The results of the Battle of Wounded Knee. Many bodies were kept in the battle field after the massacre, such as Native Americans and army officials corpse.

Homes of the Native Americans in South Dakota. All of Indians houses came from buffaloes, who were soon beginning to be extinct since the arrival of the white settlers. Buffaloes provided Indians shelter and fuel for their homes.

Sitting Bull was a Native American leader. He was whom lead his people in most battles that happened between Natives and the white settlers. Sitting Bull was shot and dead after he was arrested by U.S. army officials. His death made Indians lose most of the hope they had.

Native American Name

Aquene Hantaywee

Aquene Hantaywee is the name that I have chosen for myself. Aquene stands for peace, and it was picked due to the fact that I’m a person that loves being in places with peaceful surroundings and that has no type of conflict in existence. Hantayawee means faithful. I describe myself as faithful because everything that I have achieved and overcame in life was thanks to faith. Therefore, Aquene Hantaywee is a name that perfectly suits me!
